Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (HCSB)

In 1843 our founding fathers and mothers of Big Bone Baptist Church stated: “The Baptist Church at Big Bone hold the doctrines of the universal depravity of man, believing that all men are sinners and that the recovery of any from that state is by the grace of God in Christ Jesus, wherein such as are saved are effectually called by His Holy Spirit, justified by faith in the imputation of righteousness of Christ and that they will finally persevere through grace to glory.”

Our mission emphasis at Big Bone Baptist has not changed in 172 years about our need to share the Gospel. Man’s need for salvation can still only be resolved through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The only things that will effect lasting change is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Homes are changed because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Churches are changed as they focus on sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only hope of changing this sin ravaged world.

Below you will read of ways we are endeavoring to obey Christ’s command to be “His witnesses”. Our “Jerusalem” is our area around Union. Our “all of Judea” is all of Kentucky. Our “Samaria” is the United States of America. Our “ends of the earth” are places like Haiti and faraway India.

Like the apostle Paul, we are “… not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” (Romans 1:16 – NIV)
